How to: Draw a shape on a chart.
Solution:
Select the chart, click the drawing tool from the 'Drawing' toolbar, and draw the shape.
NOTE: The following procedure assumes that the 'Drawing' toolbar is displayed.
1) Double-click on the desired chart. (A striped border with handles appears around the chart.)
NOTE: If the chart is on a separate chart sheet in Excel, click the tab for the chart sheet.
2) Click appropriate drawing toolbar button from the 'Drawing' toolbar. (The pointer changes to a crosshair.)

3) Place the crosshair where the shape should appear.
4) Press and hold down the mouse button.
5) Drag to draw the shape on the chart.
6) Release the mouse button when the desired size is reached.
7) (Optional) Click on a handle of the shape and drag to resize the shape.

8) Click on an open area outside the shape to deselect it.
